Lebanon, Missouri Postcards
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that
Harold Bell Wright pastored in Lebanon, Missouri (Northwest corner of
Commercial and Washington) is no longer standing. As shown in the photos at
the top of this page, the church originally had a prominent steeple with an
enclosed entry. Today that looks picturesque, but by sometime between
Wright's pastorate and now that steeple just looked old fashioned and had
become expensive to maintain, so church members removed it. Later the
congregation sold the building to the Union Mission Church, and still later
the building was demolished. The Bland statue, which played a key role in
"The Calling of Dan Matthews," is still standing in front of the county
courthouse (same statue, new courthouse). Other postcards preserve old
photos of "The Old Academy."
